About
William B. Brooks is a photographer, author and curator of photographs who lives in
the picturesque hamlet of Whitefish in Montana, deep in the Rocky Mountains , close to the Blackfoot Reservation. There, he often regenerates among the famed silvertip grizzlies,
shares an evening ride on the traditional buffalo horse or smokes a pipe among his Elder friends.
His childhood dreams from the devastated ruins of Cologne in postwar Germany became a reality when he left his career as a fashion photographer in the concrete canyons of New York for the emerald valleys of western Montana. Here he
exchanged the glamorous colors of Elizabeth Arden’s palettes with the face painting ceremonies of the descendants of the Blackfoot Elder Mountain Chief. Inspiration flows freely from mysterious power places, wild animals and sage shamans. Primal energies coalesce into
visions, shapeshift to guardian spirits and layouts for future art projects.
William savors moments of sourcing when will turns into action and energy into matter, when sharing expresses gratitude for a life observed and experienced among a culture that is alien as well as encompassing fantasies and friendships for a future filled with laughter and tall tales.
